Credit Cards

A lot of visitors to Charco del Palo get caught out when it comes to paying the bill, especially when they want to pay by credit card.  The only restaurant in Charco that accepts credit cards is La Tunera Restaurant.  There aren’t any cash points in Charco del Palo, so if you do run out of cash or haven’t brought enough with you then your nearest option is Guatiza just a few kilometres up the road.  Now this is fine if you have a car but for those who do not it means a bit of a walk up and over the hills, or an even longer walk by taking the road option. The other day some friends needed cash and they knew Alan was driving out of the village at 10am so they cadged a lift with him as far as the cash point in Guatiza, but unfortunately on this particular day the cash point was Out of Order, by the time they realised this Alan had disappeared up the road and they were stranded and still had no cash. There intention was to walk back to Charco so they weren’t bothered by this, their only concern was they still didn’t have cash to pay for the evening meal booked in The Jardin Tropical. However they did manage to get cash that afternoon at a cash point in Costa Teguise, friends they knew took them down there.

My Say !

There seems to be bit of a thing at the moment about smoking in bars in Charco del Palo and Reiner’s Pub is getting most of the flack.  I’m a non smoker of 30yrs and I don’t particularly want to breath someone else's smoke, but when you work in this sort of environment like I do you have to put up with it.  When I choose to socialise at Reiner’s either after a busy shift or at the weekends it is my choice and therefore I accept that people are going to be smoking at the outside bar and on the terrace.  In a couple of weeks the clocks go forward and with the lighter nights and

Beauty Therapy & Waxing @ Centro

If you feel like being pampered while on holiday in Charco del Palo then head to Centro Commercial Charco del Palo to the unit next door to the supermarket.  Maria Jose opened the Beauty Therapy unit late last year and I have been remiss in not telling you about all the goodies she has to offer.  All the products she uses are of the highest quality and chosen for your specific skin type. See below for prices and what she has to offer.

Carnival night at La Tunera

La Tunera Restaurant in Charco del Palo is hosting a Carnival Night on Saturday 9th February.

Supermarket

I have been informed by the owner of Centro Comercial in Charco del Palo that the Supermarket will be staying open in the New Year. There have been lots of negotiations between the two parties and an agreement has been reached to the satisfaction of both. This is really good news for our little village and for our visitors.

Village community meeting

There was a meeting last night at La Tunera Restaurant for the village community of Charco del Palo.  Among the topics talked about was the state of the Duck Pond (that’s the one just below the old Romantica Restaurant).  As you know from a previous post the steps leading down to the pond have been completely renovated, not before time, but it wasn’t till last night that we realised just how much work had gone on behind the scenes to get this project completed.  The problem is no one wants to take responsibility for giving the go ahead to get the work done.  Three authority's have to give permission before the work can be started, and getting the Costas, the local government in Haria and the main government in Arrecife to talk to each other is a non starter.  It was even suggested by one person in authority to do the work at night when no one was about, and another suggestion has been to apply to clean the pool rather than renovate, because this would be looked on more favourably!  Either way we are trying as a community to do something about the Duck Pond so hopefully next time you visit you should see some improvement.

Change of Name

It’s only taken about seven or eight years but Peters Pub now has a new name ”Reiners Pub” and about time too I hear you say. Things are getting busier by the day here in Charco del Palo, lunch times at the pub are proving to be a great success, the hamburgers are going down a storm and everyone says how nice the omelettes are, so if you’re about then pop in and say hello. Reiners Pub is open at midday till late everyday of the week.

Gym in Charco del Palo!

Just at the end of the car park at Centro Comercial in Charco del Palo was a small but very overgrown garden of sorts. Well the Ayuntamiento, (that’s the town hall in Haria to you and me) has taken upon itself to not only tidy up the gardens but install four pieces of keep fit equipment. The project is yet to be finished but we all have high hopes of something useful and nice looking in the village, and I must say its not before time. I will keep you posted if and when it gets completed!

Duck Pond Improvements

IMG_1208-w800-h600

The Duck Pond which sits just below the old Romantica Restaurant in Charco del Palo is not looking its best at the moment, but……….   permission has been given from the Ayuntamiento to do improvements to the steps/path that lead from road level to the Duck Pond.  We are all hopeful that further work in and around the Duck Pond will follow. will let you know what’s happening if and when I hear anything.
